writing on the body what is written on the soul

Choreography

Writing on the body what is written on the soul.

I devoutly believe that through art we can touch the lives and hearts of others. I demonstrate this commitment to bettering the world around me by designing each choreography with a clear purpose and heartfelt commitment. I use elements of the theater including narrative structure, text, multimedia, and highly physical performance while abstracting concrete themes about our humanity, presenting dance that invites the viewer to impose their own understanding on each work. I am bringing the audience on a journey with the performers onstage; I am turning the soul inside out to be shared and witnessed. This process of sharing brings each of us closer to ourselves and closer to those around us. I aim to emotionally or intellectually educate and empower all members of society through this art-making. This is how I can begin to enact social change: by spreading awareness, building tolerance, and creating connections within my art.

I Know
(2015)

On August 4, 2013, my long-time friend and musician Matt Ryd lost his long battle with anxiety, depression, and eating disorders. Although he left this world, the most beautiful thing about art is that his voice is still with us after he has left; so many words and lyrics were left behind. After he passed, Ben Winter and I got together to finish this project. Matt was with us the whole time.
